...That was a horrible title, but I couldn't think up anymore puns on "Space" after my comic title...
So I got myself a copy of Dead Space today. I played around half an hour of it, got stuck on a puzzle, got scared shitless and gave up until someone else comes over here and I can play it with them so I won't be as scared.
Honestly I'm not much of a big horror game fan, mainly because I'm easily scared and tend to not sleep well at all when I've seen things that scare me. The only horror-based game that I've played and hasn't had a massive effect on my psyche is Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, and that was hardly horror. That was more "You're looking over here now, kill these things". I could cope with that.
I guess I don't like having to do things for myself in horror games, because I tend to try to take the safest route through everything, and I can't do that in those games because there is no safe way to go through them. It's "Go through dangerous place filled with zombie things" all the time, with the occasional "Go through slightly more/less dangerous path filled with zombie things". So I'll just stand around in a safe corridor for a while, appreciating the game design and being completely safe, rather than risk being killed.
In fact, the only reason I got Dead Space was because of all the pre-release stuff that came out for it, which I watched and was intrigued by. I guess advertising does sell, after all, eh?
One of the main things that stops me in my tracks about Dead Space is how well-done the music is. I'll be walking down a corridor, and suddenly the music will change to that creepy music they have in the build up to a murder or something in horror movies. At that point I choose a different fucking path, even if there are no zombie things (Necromorphs) around. I'm not taking the risk of shitting myself if there's one around the corner.
I guess what I'm trying to say here, is... new comic, up. I'll continue the arc that I started last time eventually, but I have no ideas for it, so I guess I'm reviewing games until then or something?
